Depp supports ’21 Jump Street’ movie 25/06/2009

Johnny Depp has endorsed the upcoming film version of 21 Jump Street.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor became a huge teen idol with 21 Jump Street. In this TV series, which ran from 1987 to 1991, Depp played Tom Hanson, a police officer whose youthful looks enable him to infiltrate schools undercover. Although 21 Jump Street provided Depp a huge opportunity, the actor has always openly criticised the series, deeming it stupid and unrealistic.

But now the series is set to be turned into a film. And the script is being written at this moment by Superbad star Jonah Hill, who has expressed his desire to make a raunchy R-rated action comedy out of the material. Earlier this month, Hill also stated that he hoped its original star would make a cameo appearance in the movie. However, Johnny Depp didn’t react immediately to this news report. Until now.

In an interview with an American site, Depp has branded Jonah Hill's proposed movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street as a “great idea”. And the actor even said that he’s certainly game for a guest appearance in the film. Depp says, “Absolutely [I would make a cameo]. It'd be hilarious. If we find the right thing to do, it could be very funny.”

The film version of 21 Jump Street will released somewhere next year.
